Google Quality Update

… in every way possible!

Content, backlinks, the lot!

As you may (or may not) already know, this week, Google made an announcement…

and a pretty special one at that.

On Wednesday, 1st August, Google officially confirmed that they’ve released a “broad core algorithm update” via Twitter, just after many marketers had reported significant movement in SERP rankings over the past few days.

As we know, it’s not out of the ordinary for Google to drop algorithm change on us every so often, as they’re constantly releasing new updates, but this one seems like one of the more significant.

This is one you will be bookmarking. One you’ll be adding to GA.

So, what is the new Google Algorithm Update?

The tweet we’re all talking about quotes;

This week we released a broad core algorithm update, as we do several times per year. Our guidance about such updates remains the same as in March, as we covered here: https://bit.ly/2rnFtdt

Which was a quote retweet from the original in March;

Each day, Google usually releases one or more changes designed to improve our results. Some are focused around specific improvements. Some are broad changes. Last week, we released a broad core algorithm update. We do these routinely several times per year….

As with any update, some sites may note drops or gains. There’s nothing wrong with pages that may now perform less well. Instead, it’s that changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously under-rewarded….

What does this new Google ‘quality’ update really mean?

As these things are hard to confirm (and get your head around at the best of times), it’s important to understand, with this update, we’re aware that there’s nothing for us ‘to do’. There’s nothing for us to ‘fix’ or ‘mend’, as nothing has broken.
Instead, we need to move with Google, we need to learn with Google, and by doing so, we will be rewarded with the rankings we deserve.
To me, this means we should be focusing on the QUALITY of what we do, more than ever before.
We all talk about content marketing and link building, but how much do we really focus on the quality of what we do? and evaluate the quality against others?
